We are immensely delighted to officially announce that our superstar member and legendary real estate professional, John McGregor, has been elected as the new President of The Real Estate Institute of Tasmania (REIT) Southern Branch. 

Just as how pumped up the whole 4one4 Team with his appointment, John is also thrilled to represent the organisation moving forward. “It’s exciting that as the President, you are the person that is required to speak on behalf of the group when it’s necessary and such is always an opportunity I really enjoy,” shared John. 

The Real Estate Institute of Tasmania (REIT) is the largest association of real estate professionals in the state, representing up to 95% of agents, which gives its members access to knowledge, support, and training. It is committed to providing opportunities to assist both those who are wishing to enter the industry and those within the industry already to achieve a more competitive edge in today’s business environment.

A wide range of member services is offered by REIT for its members including but not limited to employment contracts, forms, market research, special events, legislation advice, government lobbying, media liaison & industry specific news.

In Tasmania, the organisation structure begins with the Board Directors at the top level, of which John is also a part, followed by the three branches that make up the REIT: Northern Branch, Southern Branch, and North-West Branch. Each of the branches is composed of an esteemed committee to which the Southern branch has 8 members. 

During meetings, one of the President’s roles is to report what’s happening in the particular branch he is representing. Hence, he is expected to be knowledgeable about current affairs as far as the branch is concerned and cascade his members’ queries and thoughts back to the board to enable them to make more effective decisions for the industry. 

Chris McGregor, life member and longest serving board member of the REIT, former President, and a fellow 4one4 Property Co. member, shared how the REIT wants to help keep the government on track with the industry. “We want to make sure that things are still working for the people in the real estate industry and that we supply the correct training that they can apply to do their job very well,” Chris mentioned. 

“The other thing that the institute [REIT] is involved in is the code of ethics to make sure that all our agents operate in an ethical manner towards their clients.”

To date, the REIT Southern Branch represents more than 170 real estate agents (and their staff) under its roof. Some of the courses and training that the REIT provides to its members are the Property Representatives Course, Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice, Diploma of Property (Agency Management), and Continuing Professional Development (CPD), among others. 

These programs are designed to enable property representatives to continue to upskill their knowledge and skills, ensuring they are at their highest standards. Such a scheme is also a great way to set themselves apart from other agents, especially in the areas of industry developments, legislative change, and work practices.

As a past President of the REIT Southern Branch, Chris has left John with a message and a piece of inspiring advice. “John has been in the state board for a while, so he can definitely pick up some good experience from that. And I think as his time as the branch president progresses, I know he would do a fabulous job,” Chris ended.
