Get ready to lace up your running shoes—Hobart’s much-anticipated Cadbury Marathon is back this Saturday , January 11th, 2025. Known for its picturesque course, exciting community vibe, and, of course, the sweet reward of Cadbury goodies at the finish line, this event is perfect for runners and spectators alike.

With a record-breaking 3,704 registrations as of Wednesday, this year’s marathon is set to be one of the largest in its 42-year history. Whether you’re planning to run, spectate, or simply navigate around the festivities, here’s everything you need to know.

Cadbury Marathon: A Community Legacy

Founded in 1983 by Cadbury HR manager Bob Gozzi and runner Ted Best, the Cadbury Marathon was inspired by the success of the London Marathon. Starting with just 40 runners, it has grown into a major community event attracting local, interstate, and international participants.

This year, the event will see more than double the number of interstate (1,940) and overseas (197) participants compared to last year.

According to Athletics Tasmania CEO and race director Blake Steele, Tasmania’s temperate summer weather makes it a “destination” for runners. “It’s not a fast marathon—we don’t get the elites, but it’s very much a community marathon,” Steele said.

And of course, there’s chocolate at the finish line—a sweet reward that makes this event truly unique.
