Run the Bridge 2022 a Massive Success for 4one4

Our wonderful Team at 4one4 Property Co. are always looking for ways to push themselves to be the best they can be; and whenever an opportunity comes to get together and undertake a physical challenge, you know they are sure to be amongst it. We love to mark our attendance in many of the fun-running events across Hobart & Tasmania each year. And for our first stop this 2022, our Team has done and dusted the Think Big Run The Bridge fun run and walk on Sunday, 27th February.

The Hobart Run The Bridge is one of Tasmania’s largest and premier running events each year. It is held in the capital city of Hobart and sees participants’ journey over the iconic Tasman Bridge and finish down at Princes Wharf 1 near the beloved Salamanca. This year is the 13th edition of this competition and the second time our team has strapped on the joggers and entered the event as a team.

Martin Evans, a Real Estate Agent at 4one4 Property Co. and a fun run enthusiast, was the catalyst to strapping on the runners this year, as he was the one who encouraged the team to get together and participate. His thinking was pretty simple, since we’ve had 4one4 participants in a number of fun runs  in the last 5 years already, why not shoot out a group text to see if he could gauge any interest this year.

“It’s good to be involved because I feel it’s important to keep a level of fitness up. I often subscribe to the old saying ‘you gotta use it or you’ll lose it’… You’ve got to stay active and fit,” Martin shared.”…and it is always something great to do with your friends and colleagues…

“It was a great experience; it was a perfect day weather-wise. We had lots of fun and as soon as the run started, you could see our competitive juices start to build up too!”

Nine (9) members of our 4one4 family, along with four (4) of the junior members (aka the kidlets of our family)  were present to take part in this affair. Among the categories that our fellows decided to join in are Epic 5km Run, 5km Walk, and 1km Walk. Other categories which we weren’t brave enough to enter this year, but hey there is always 2023, include the Spectran Group 10km Run; as well as the newest division, the Virtual 10km & 5km.

Competing in the Epic 5km Run were  Directors Patrick Berry & Abbey Berry, Sales Team Members Martin Evans & Aaron Murray, and junior 4one4 champion Parker Berry, aged only 8 years old and still impresing with his 5km efforts (*cough cough* his time was better than his mum and dad’s). Aaron Murray from our Sales Department came home strong and finished the run the fastest with a time of 24 minutes and 33 seconds followed by 8-year old Parker with 26 minutes and 26 seconds duration. Martin, Abbey, and Patrick, also finished powerfully with 28:01, 29:39, and 30:42 completion time respectively.

Grace and her partner Aaron were on fire for the 5km Walk division, both crossing the finish line with their record 51 minutes and 56 seconds. Then as a collective group, Jo, Taylese, Cruise, and Amaylah completed this particular category in 56 minutes and 42 seconds while enjoying a pleasant walk as a team.

Another brave contender who represented our Team for the Liv-eat 1km Walk is Quinn (6 years old) who accomplished her route and reached the finish line with a giant smile on her face.

One of the new highlights of the event is the Virtual Run category where people of all ages and gender, regardless of where they are situated, can join and take part. Here, participants can complete their run or walk at their convenience. Progress can be tracked using popular apps like Strava, Garmin Connect, Suunto Movescount, and such, which will be uploaded to the virtual leaderboard and sent via email.

Martin highlighted how innovative this strategy is especially in this trying time of COVID, however, this could also mean missing out on the most exciting part of the event. “When you enter physically, there’s a whole kind of celebration at the end of the run, where everyone is gathering and cheering you on over that last kilometre through the finish line. Doing it virtually, you do miss out on that part. You’re still participating but you do miss out the atmosphere when you finish the run.”

Not only does this fun run and walk event, Think Big Run The Bridge, offer a fun and memorable experience, but a meaningful one as well. This year, the beneficiaries for the fundraising initiative are the West Moonah Community House and Rotary Tasmania.

To give you a background, The West Moonah Community House’s goal is to create a friendly, caring, and inclusive environment for the community to connect with one another while learning new things and finding help when they need it. Similar to the event’s vision, they offer a place for individuals to come together in unity to share, learn, and grow.

Rotary Tasmania, on the other hand, initiated a project called Rotary Tasmania Community Care, that aims to support the health and well-being of people in the community. Since COVID, they focused on rural and isolated areas of Tasmania to improve their access to mental health services while enhancing social connection and well-being.

Aside from this, the management still continues to adhere to its promise of making the Think Big Run The Bridge event a sustainable one with its “Green Project”. This includes initiatives such as producing locally-made Tasmanian Oak timber medals and compostable cups.

Aside from these, Martin sees this event as an opportunity for the whole Team at 4one4 Property Co. to come together and build firmer rapport. “It is important because we’re exercising together and we’re socialising outside our work. It helps form stronger relationships within our team. It’s an opportunity to have a bit of fun and connect to a more personal level rather than just professional in the workplace,” he ended.

If you weren’t able to attend this event, next year’s edition is anticipated and set for 26 February 2023, next to the success of this year’s affair. Until then, be prepared and get ready to conquer the bridge!
